Some History Of The First Margarita

If you have ever wondered who invented the first margarita you will have to still keep wondering. The stories go on to tell a great myriad of people who invented it. The stories are far more complicated then you would think.

So I will tell you maybe the most legitimate story I think there is on it’s invention. The margarita was more then likely not created by a Mexican because cocktails were not really in Mexico at that time. In all likelihood it was invented by an Irish man in Mexico named Madden in 1936. That is when it is mentioned as the “Tequila Daisy,” a twist creation going way back to Victorian times.

The story is said that during the United States Prohibition Mr. Madden accidentally picked up the wrong bottle when he was making a Daisy drink. To Madden’s surprise it became the craze in the town. The customer loved it so much he told all his friends. So as you know, the word spread.

Apparently the only difference between a Daisy cocktail and a Margarita is that the Daisy is made with brandy. It was not laced with the sugar that we have in it today. So the story goes that this might be the beginning of the first Margarita and so as we know it evolved.

As for the famous Margarita glass it accidentally fashioned at a restaurant in Los Angeles. It was an order mistake for champagne glasses that came in a most peculiar shape. To the luck of the restaurant the bar tender suggested using them for Margaritas since they looked bigger. The mission was to put a higher price on the drink. I believe it worked!

Then we have a variety of margaritas to pick from like mint, peach, mango, watermelon, strawberry, cranberry, grapefruit, lime, blue curacao, frozen coconut, lemon-berry, melon, ginger-raspberry, kumquat, blueberry mint, amaretto, frozen cherry. Honestly the list could go on but this is what I have for you. One could spend a lot of time trying out all these delicious margaritas.

I just have one here for you to try today. I hope you like this easy Virgin Mango Margarita with Option Of Tequila.

How To Make Virgin Mango Margarita with Option Of Tequila

There are two different ways to make this Virgin Mango Margarita with Option Of Tequila. In this recipe I have for you I use canned mango puree with Jumex brand. I really love Goya mango puree, but I couldn’t find any in my local grocery stores. It is very easy to find on the East Coast, but out West it seems to be scarce.

The other option is to make the puree yourself. I use two fresh mangoes for this recipe and add a little filtered water to keep it as a thinner liquid. I have used a little orange juice to keep the flavor intense and that works really nice. The choice is up to you in how intense you want your flavor. Just keep in mind that you will be adding ice cubes and that weakens the flavor as well.

Mix all the fruit ingredients in a blender and refrigerate until it is time to use to keep it chilled. Add a half cup of club soda or 1 cup of tequila ( if you want alcohol in the mixture) to the blender and mix like a single pulse just the blend. Poor the mango margarita into ice filled cups and garnish with a slice of lime. Be mindful that a thick slice is ideal because some people like that extra lime to squeeze into their drink.

I hope you like this Virgin Mango Margarita with Option Of Tequila as much as we do. Enjoy!
