Loving This Super Flavorful Creamy Cumin Hummus

If I say this is The Best Cumin Hummus with Roasted Cumin Seeds, then it is true! I am very picky about hummus, especially texture. I made this hummus with adding some water to the recipe and it whipped up so creamy. This is like no other hummus that I’ve made before. This recipe is nicely flavored with cumin, fresh garlic, lemon, olive oil, salt a little Dijon mustard and red wine vinegar. I topped it with roasted cumin seeds in olive oil, Spicy Paprika And Cumin Roasted Chickpeas, chopped cilantro and smoked paprika. Make some chopped veggies, naan bread, toasted bread, chips or crackers to dip into this luscious dip. Being that it’s not that spicy it’s a humus the whole family will enjoy.

A Little History On Cumin

Cumin is a well loved slender seed called cuminum cyminum in the parsley family. This annual herb has been used as a culinary spice, medicine, trade and even as a currency in Medieval England. The Egyptian’s used it for mummifications for thousands of years and called it tpnn and offered King Ramesses III cumin as a gift to the God Ra.

As being still under study, research is showing that cumin originated in Southwest Asia, Central Asia or it originated in the Eastern Mediterranean areas. Although, back then wild seeds were excavated in a settlement area of modern day called Atlit-Yam, dating into the time of the 6th millennium BC. This location is in Israel. Being that this herb was so popular and migrated in trade and currency it is hard to pin point exactly where it originated. Only that it was and is still loved today in many ways.

How To Make The Best Cumin Hummus with Roasted Cumin Seeds

Really this hummus is so quick and easy. It is all made in a blender (I use a the Ninja BL770 Mega Kitchen System for making this). You can make it in a food processor, but I don’t think it will come out as smooth.

I put all the ingredients in except the water. Add the water in a little at a time. I find that it makes the hummus really really smooth. Somehow blending it this way has made a world of difference in making hummus. It must be how it emulsifies with the olive oil, because I blend it on high for a couple of minutes. Scrap the sides of the blender down and blend it for a couple of minutes more.

When it is done put the hummus into a serving dish and spread it out. Use the back of a spoon and drag it in swirls or circles to create grooves in the hummus. This will help create wells for the olive oil and roasted cumin to fill.

Top it with the roasted cumin seeds and Spicy Roasted Paprika And Cumin Chickpeas (you can find the recipe details on this website just click on the red type). As for other toppings you may like, paprika or smoked paprika, chopped cilantro and hot pepper flakes.

How To Roast Cumin Seeds

Heat a small frying pan or cast iron skillet (I use American made Lodge Cast Iron Skillets) on medium heat. Add two tablespoons of olive oil and two teaspoons of cumin seeds. Move the seeds around a little so as not to burn. Roast the seeds for about 3 minutes or until it starts to have a cumin aroma. Do not burn (if you burn them start over).

When the cumin seeds are done roasting add them to the top of the hummus. Use a small spoon to pour the oil and cumin seeds in the grooves of the hummus. This all depends how pretty you want to make your hummus. Then add the extra toppings if you wish.
