A Little History Of Chili Cheese Dip
Well we don’t have to look that far back in history to find the origins of chili cheese dip. We can go back at around 1900 at an American Mexican restaurant owned by Otis Farnsworth in San Antonio Texas. He invented the dip at his restaurant call The Original Mexican Restaurant. It became so popular that it is mentioned in various cookbooks throughout the early 20th century.
Today cheese dips are made for any occasion and a real American comfort food. Some people say it is a Southern staple. Although, it is not as desired in the North or in every Mexican restaurant in Mexico like it is here in America.
There are so many modern recipes for making cheese dip in this era that it has become a type of smorgasbord of trying out the next new tasty cheese blend with spices. Americans have become a connoisseur’s of cheese dips.
Even this Easy Vegan Chili Cheese Dip is among the new era of tastebud extravaganza. It is so delicious it is hard to believe it is not real cheese and that it is vegan. We have come so far in our development of creating “The New” next craze of fake delicious, but all so similar to something we already know. It’s so simple how we can reach for a bag of vegan cheese, vegan cream cheese and vegan chili and make this recipe I have here for you today in minutes.
Choosing Vegan Cheese Ingredients For Easy Vegan Chili Cheese Dip
I know some people have their preferences on vegan cheese, but I really like the taste of the Daiya vegan cheddar cheese. I think it has a good authentic taste of cheddar. It also works well in melting as close to real cheese would melt.
I also like Daiya’s brand in cream cheese because it is a little hard like real cream cheese. So it has a perfect thick consistency like real cream cheese. Plus a word of warning. It does have to sit out to get a little soft and pliable to work with. You could also microwave it on melt to soften it up a little. Although, I know many people don’t like microwaving their healthy food. It does help when making this dip.
What Chili To Use For Easy Vegan Chili Cheese Dip
There are a handful of really good vegan can chili’s out there today. I tend to gravitate to my good old faithful Amy’s Organic Black Bean Chili. It is one of my favorites. It’s not too hot and I love black beans. So this is my first go too. Second I would pick Amy’s Spicy Mixed Bean Chili. This is great if you want a little kick to your dip. If you have guest that are sensitive to spice then pick the black bean chili.
Of course you can always make your own chili and add it to the dip. I have a two very nice recipes on this website Vegan Lentil Chili and Red Wine Vegan Bean Chili. Both would workout great for this dip. Today I just wanted to show something very easy and quick. But! If you have time to spare check out these two recipes.
What To Eat With Easy Vegan Chili Cheese Dip
Of course everyone knows that tortilla chips are amazing with Easy Vegan Chili Cheese Dip. It is hard to argue that! I love big fat organic corn chips like the ones in my photos here. I get mine at Trader Joe’s but you can find them at most super markets. These chips are so great for scooping up dip.
Don’t forget vegetables with this chili cheese dip. Celery and sliced peppers work great for dipping in this dip.
You can serve this dip with any Mexican dinner foods. I highly recommend my Chili Lime Roasted Poblano Tacos or Sweet Potato Chili Burger. I’m sure you will find the perfect dish to serve with this easy side and appetizer.
Don’t forget to top the dip with cilantro if you like. It also goes well with sliced green onions or red onions to add color. I make it with jalapeño’s or small red chili peppers or hot sauce sprinkled on top. Make it however you like. It is sure to disappear no matter what you top it with. Enjoy!
